I wouldn't have thought of that.Īnd there's alway next year, now that the Yankees have Girardi. Any thoughts?īy the way, great idea using the 1/8 input for the Nuvi. It would be easier for her to select songs, artist, playlist, etc.from the IPod than from the Stereo. For example, my wife may want to scroll around while I'm driving. The only problem I may have is not being able to control the IPod directly from the Ipod itself, when I want too. I hope you don't mind, but I have one other question: Since you've connected your Dice, have you had to mess around with the Dip Switches at all? I'm thinking about tucking away the Dice unit out of site, leaving only room for the Ipod and future Nuvi. And thank you for verifiying the connetion to the back of the radio. I will try to install it over the weekend, if time permits. I'm very excited about connecting mine, just received it on Monday. As I mentioned before, the AUX mode has preamp volume adjust (cd button 1), Bass (button 2), Mid (button3) and Trebel (button 4).Īwesome! Thanks a million, Yankeeblues. To change from IPOD to AUX, you hit cd #5, rotate tuner dial i turn until it changes from IPOD to AUX on display. I am going to pug in the headphone jack of my Garmin Nuvi with that so directions will come through the car stereo while playing mp3's with the Nuvi. Not much room in there for anything else! I Also have a Belkin stereo AUX cable in there for connection of non-IPOD devices. The Ipod is behind the upper center bin door with the Dice Module. So after "Chick Corea" scrolls to the left, there is a *, then the album name and then back again. Or mode (playlist, or album) Note that the playlist or album NAME does not display although the album name and artist will scroll as in number 1 above. Or song name (scrolls if ong name otherwise static) The display shows your choice ofĪrist/album, scrolling, separated by a * (a snowflake, really) Here is a pic of the radio in the dice mode, displaying a song by the great Chick Corea. Apple has acknowledged this and is allegedly fixing via a firmware update. Maybe not a good rthing!įinally, all IPOD classics have an issue when connected to peripherals via the bottom dock port - they occasionally go to sleep by pausing right in the middle of a song. So yuor pasenger can play with it while you drive. But, all pre-6th gen ipods will work either way at the same time. Not a big deal to me since I like to pay attention when I drive. You can only operate it from the radio when they are paired. The first is that Apple has, only with the newest gen, locked out the ability to operate the system using the IPOD itself when connectede via the dock port. The rest of the issues have to do with the crappy firmware on the IPOD Classic which is still buggy 2 months after release. You can, with practice, toggle between mode, artist, album and song. The dash display is a bit wigggy - sometimes, it stops scrolling and occasionally gives some weird messages- once, it briefly said, "NY Traffic." (!) But, it does work. Maybe the worst feature is that playlist names do not show - each one is called, yep- "Playlist." I keep just 2 - my weekly playlist of fresh selections, and Podcasts (Car Talk!!!) I just make a new playlist up each week and let it play. So if you need to skip ahead 100 albums, you'd have to turn the knob 100 times. You have to scroll through each songlist, playlist or album, 1 at a time you cannot just jump to another place. There is some understandable lagtime between changing songs, playlists or albums before the command is executed a second or two. So the track buttons on the steering wheel rotate between those functions, but do not change songs. The seek buttons only rotate between song/playlist/album/chapter(audiobooks). With my (05) radio, the only way to change tracks, playlists or albums is by rotating the large tuning knob. It seems to turn and off fine with the radio and is always charged. I felt it was well worth that not to drop a few dash clips into the ventilation system or scratch the dash using the wrong tools, as all of mine are. You can also change modes and operate soley from the Ipod itself and there is an aux plug (with adjustable input volume via radio controls) so I can let my son plu in his Creative Zen Vision or a sat receiver, etc.) I wanted the box within reach in case the plug breaks, etc. I had the box installed inside my upper center storage bin the install is completely invisible. Volume is very powerful - similar to cd and radio. I am not an audiophile, merely, a musician. Sound quality is incredibly good noticeably better than cd's. It has been a mixure of pleasure and pain, but more good than bad. I just installed the DICE gen2 in my 05 non nav/non sat EX-L.Īnd I bought a brand new IPOD classic 80gb.
